Cutlery by Tapio Wirkkala is a good example of how forks, knives and spoons carry on the functions of the hand by grabbing, cutting and scooping.

In his Hopeasiipi cutlery, Wirkkala would first carve the models from wood and then study, using X-ray photography and other means, how the items  suited the user's hand

Wirkkala designed several series of cutlery for both the Kultakeskus company in Finland and Rosenthal in Germany.
